Renew Green Energy advise on, supply, install and maintain renewable energy systems for domestic, commercial and agricultural settings. They manage projects across the whole of Scotland and Northern England. Managing Director Brian Middleton leads the company and has extensive knowledge about renewable energy solutions, which enables him to provide advice and solutions to fit each individual requirement.
Brian and the Renew team have worked with EQ (formerly Douglas Home & Co) for over two decades. More recently, Mike Johnston at EQ has helped Brian with his accountancy, taxation, and advisory requirements. The EQ team manages much of the compliance work for Renew Green Energy, ranging from accountancy to personal tax and providing guidance and advice on payroll and bookkeeping when necessary.

Recently, EQ assisted Renew Green Energy with a corporate restructure. This enabled Brian to complete a tax-efficient buyout of the other directors and shareholders. The purpose of this project was to allow Brian to push the business in a new direction, resulting in rapid growth for the company.

As Renew Green Energy works within the renewables sector, where much research & development is undertaken, EQ has managed to claim R&D tax credits for several years. Brian commented, “I was amazed by Mike’s proactive approach regarding the R&D tax credits. I had never heard of them before and thought it was too good to be true when told we were eligible. The team goes above and beyond to help with everything from general accountancy to specialist tax scenarios like this.”
